For sale here is a dream camper that has become a very special vehicle in 2 years of conversion.
- A former Swiss fire engine that came along like new when I bought it.
The first thing I did was to insulate the interior of the driver's cabin with self-adhesive bitumen sheets, glued a carpet on top. The result is noticeable and it has become much quieter. I also insulated the headliner and the back with Alubutyl.
- The hood, originally made of plastic, I have completely covered from the inside with Alubutyl.
- I replaced the driver's seat with an Isri air suspension seat. On the passenger side is still the original bench in great condition.
- It got a clutch boost via a Haldex air boost, now clutches almost like a car.
- He got on all 4 portal axles venting systems, so that on long highway trips, the oil of the portal axles does not migrate into the axles and cause damage to the portal axles.
- It got a stainless steel exhaust.
- The valve cover gasket has been replaced, it has received new rear shock absorbers and new pushrod seals.
- The air system has been reworked and important parts have been renewed.
- The car has been completely restored and painted with Brantho Kurrox before the new case was mounted, although there was no rust to be seen anyway.
- It has received 5 new tires 365/80R20/152K; Michelin XZL
- All oils have been changed, as well as oil filter and coolant.
The case:
- The case has a steel frame and has been built with panels that have a sheet metal outside- 5 cm foam inside and again inside with a sheet metal wall. The climate in the case is comfortable, both in summer at 30+ and in winter at minus 10-30 degrees.
- The suitcase has a floor heating, which is operated by a diesel Webasto parking heater and together with the hot water pump also provides enough hot water for showering and washing up. The underfloor heating heats the case up to 20 degrees within a very short time.
- The vehicle gets the necessary electricity from 3 x 400 watt solar panels on the roof, via a Victron solar controller the electricity is fed into an inverter with a continuous output of 4000 watts and a peak output of up to 8000 watts. The remaining power goes into the 2 x 300 AH AGM batteries.
Everything runs on electricity:
- The large refrigerator with freezer compartment,
- The 2 er induction plate and
- The 1.40 x 2.00 meter lift bed.
- There are many 230 volt sockets, as well as wires to install lamps.
- The case has a 500 liter fresh water tank and a 350 liter stainless steel waste water tank.
- There are single lever faucets in the kitchen, as well as in the bathroom, and in the indoor shower (which is not yet finished) the pipe for a faucet is also ready.
- There is an outdoor shower also with faucet, so you can already have a great shower.
- There is a 300 liter diesel tank installed and I have 2 x 20 liter reserve canisters installed on the luggage rack. There is also the packed spare wheel, which can be lowered or pulled up with a crane.
- I replaced the old front headlights with Hella H4 main headlights. In addition, it has two OSRAM LED strips with 4000 lumens each installed on top of the luggage rack. (working headlights)
- There are several storage boxes outside, but on the luggage rack there would also be room for a metal box if you push the spare tire a little to the left.
- Inside the cabin I have already built some cabinets, Above the kitchen and above the fridge, also a base cabinet under the bathroom sink. There is an large partition toilet.
- I have also planned a horizontal laundry cabinet in the back on top of the 500 liter water tank. That would have the dimensions of just under 2 meters, a depth of about 58 cm and a height of 50 cm. Enough space to store laundry for 2 people.
- There is a hatch to the cab.
- There is a keder rail for which I also made a sun awning with counterpart and stilts.
- I have built in the electrical storage compartment still a connection for shore power, so you can draw power in bad sun conditions even times on a campsite.
Now to the question, why do I sell this dream vehicle? 2 years ago my life situation was different, now in the private environment has changed a lot and this vehicle no longer fits in there.
I have always built everything as that it should last for eternity, have stehts on biologically safe materials used. It is not quite finished yet and I am sure there are still some things that can be changed or optimized. As long as he is with me, I'm also working on it, but he is absolutely travel and can be immediately go and used.
I also just had a value appraisal done for the insurance (1 week old) value 122.000€.
I have now been the last 3 weeks 4500 km on the road with the Unimog and have put it through its paces. It runs absolutely reliable and has not shown any defects. The only thing that has shown is that the starter makes difficulties in high heat and needs a blow with the hammer. It ate a total of 2 liters of oil and also a 1 liter of water after long full throttle highway driving.
The first 2000 km I never drove it over 82 km/h and lukewarm time, especially in the warm only 70 Km/h, only on the way home on the last 1000 km I let it run and it ran 86-90 Km/h at 3000 rpm and purring like a cat.
The solar system worked great, it produced 3.5 KW of electricity on full sunny days and I never had problems running the always well filled fridge, induction cooktop, fan and other consumers at the same time.
The outdoor shower works flawlessly and hot water production for washing up and showering is done within 15 minutes. I could also imagine to change the MOG, what I am looking for is a Sprinter 4x4 with box or body. Or even a Vario 4x4 ready built. It is important to me that the vehicle has a Mercedes Benz engine installed, so at least 10 years old. It would also be nice to have a motorcycle carrier at the rear.
Please no vehicles in need of repair!
