Iveco Daily based camper van. Seriously well built and equipped, ready to go on your next adventure.
It might be a bit of an ugly duckling on the outside, but inside it's a cosy, rustic and comfortable home from home.
Whether you have aspirations of travelling through Europe or indeed much further afield, or just taking your family surfing, or cruising around the UK, this camper van has everything you need.
Designed and built by a highly experienced professional Overlander, everything has been considered to ensure that this camper is not only reliable and indestructibly built, but has all of the equipment and functionality to live and travel comfortably for long or short durations.
Please find below a breakdown of the specifications of your new camper van.
The Vehicle: Iveco Daily (de-commissioned Snap On Tools van). The MGW of this vehicle is 6.5 tons, so you will need a driving license that allows you to drive over 3.5 tons. If you passed you driving test before Jan 1st 1997, (as they call it, Grandfather’s rights)….you will be fine. If not, then you will need to acquire the correct license.
It’s a 3 litre turbo diesel. 6 speed manual, with 280 HP……more than enough for any type of driving. It’s speed limited, which is a good thing. Combined with the limiter and the van being well under weight, there’s plenty of power, and when cruising on the motorway at 90 kph you get a fuel return of around 30 miles to the gallon. It pulls like a train on the hills and is quite capable in any situation……..dead easy to drive, sweet gearbox, light clutch…it even has an air suspension drivers seat…..which is very comfortable for long drive days.
The vehicle has been well maintained, and has never let us down. It starts on the button every time and waltzes through it’s MOT each year with no problems.
The chassis has just been now refurbished.MOT brought forward so now with a FULL YEAR to 21st April 2025.
The van has been re-registered by DVLA as a Special Mobile Unit, which is accepted as a Motorhome, see the picture of our current insurance policy and acceptance of the vehicle being insured as a motorhome/camper van.……so all of that has already been done and eases the insurance costs considerably.
Living Quarters: Inside the copious living space you will find everything you need to live and survive comfortably. These include a fixed permanent king sized bed and two additional kids' bunks (160cm long). All the mattresses are memory foam. The bunk set-up doubles as a storage area and also as a breakfast bar for the early morning coffee intake.
More storage than you’ll ever need, a shower, a toilet, more storage, a dining table with 4 seats which double up as passenger seats fitted with seat belts (see picture of industrial seat fixings. You’re legally allowed to carry 5 passengers). All fittings have been done to industry standards for safety, MOT, etc. The inside of the camper has some beautiful reclaimed timbers and metals, and the finish and fit is fantastic. It even has an antique wooden floor, also…..did I mention all the storage? Three windows (custom fitted) so it’s light and airy inside with blackout blinds and roof fan blinds for total darkness whilst sleeping.
Auxiliary Equipment: This van was designed and built by a professional Overlander, so it’s very functional, simple and bullet proof. You have a simple gravity fed 150 litre cold water tank, 3 auxiliary batteries, a 1500W pure sine wave inverter (12v to 240v), LED lighting throughout, USB charge points throughout and a very clever and efficient charging system that works flawlessly. Whether you just drive, or camp, or hook up or go off grid, the charging system will always be tip top and you will never run out of juice. As you hook up to any 240v supply the charging system chooses, and provides the best solution to keeping your lights on at all times, whilst maintaining full capacity from the 330 Ah battery set up. This system is tried and tested over years and was installed in many overland trucks and campers with a 100% success rate. There are 2 multi speed roof fans, an electric shower and multiple 240v sockets. The whole system is completely electrically safe with RCB’s/MCB's and an automatic 240/12v switching system…..just hook it up and the system does the rest, as confirmed to re-register the vehicle as a motorhome with DVLA etc.
Kitchen: On strong advice from the designer, we opted for an outside kitchen. For good reasons……..firstly, much more space inside for living. Secondly, no cooking smells ever inside. And it’s just nice to cook outside!!!! The kitchen fits into a space of just 1 meter cubed, with a slide out twin industrial catering gas burner, 240v power, LED lights, a cold water supply and once again…storage for everything you’ll ever need, to cook exquisite meals. Both of us are keen food lovers and we have cooked just about anything and pretty much everything in this compact kitchen set-up. It’s a tried and tested system that’s easy to keep clean, as it can be completely dismantled in 2 minutes. You have a 12kg Calor gas bottle (enough for any long or short camping trip), and a spare smaller one for extra long trips. There’s a permanent fold down industrial metal table to one side, and the locker lid acts as a roof for when you find yourself cooking in the rain!!!……..it’s all robustly constructed and has never failed us. The van is equipped with everything you’ll need too feed yourselves!!!! We never bothered with a fridge, but the wiring and electrics are pre-installed for one if you desire. If the weather is really bad, then even off grid, the battery system will allow a small 240v halogen style cooker to warm your soup up without venturing outside at all…….but we prefer to cook outside regardless.
Outside: We never got around to getting it painted, the main reason being, we couldn't agree on the colour.....!!!! So cosmetically it’s not royalty outside. The whole back of the vehicle was removed during the build and re-designed. Gone are the tail lift and the rear barn doors, instead the back of the van has been clad in aluminium. You have a 240v traditional bayonet power socket for your hook up (50 metre cable included), also an industrial rear crash bar.
Twin rear wheel axle, so in affect 3 spare wheels at your disposal in times of extreme need. The side access door to the living section has been replaced from the old electric door to a normal door, complete with Tila hinge and security locks. On the passenger side there is a huge tarpaulin/awning fitted (the tarp was custom built for this van and measures 4 x 3 meters, complete with stainless steel poles, serious guy pins and ropes……..once out, the tarp covers the whole side area of the van extending 3 metres out……….plenty of room to party as and when the mood takes you. External LED light bar on a flying lead, so you can illuminate the entire field!!! All of the equipment for erecting the tarp/jacks, tyre levers and so on are included in the sale.
Summary: Before we decided to buy this vehicle and have it built to our specifications, we looked at many different options……….we weren’t in a position to spend £60,000……so we took the ‘custom build’ option instead, and when parked next to the 60-70 grand motorhomes, this van shines with functionality, robustness, design and simplicity……and is just a million times cooler to boot. No one ever comments on your classic homogenised swoosh paint job or electric step…….but this van gets a lot of positive attention and envy wherever we’ve taken it. Along with some unique aspects, bullet proof design and construction, it’s a van for life……..and if you’re the really adventurous type, then this vehicle will easily accommodate permanent living or overland travel anywhere, for any duration of time.
There are many, many more details that haven’t been covered in this advert……….best thing is to come and have a look at it and decide for yourself. It won’t be right for everyone, but it is VERY right for the person who enjoys a more organic, outside style of camping/living/travelling………easy to maintain, simple to repair or indeed modify if necessary, as it’s been constructed in a modular way, so it all comes apart and can be modified accordingly, if you desire. It’s awesome and the possibilities are endless!!!!
We are asking £12,000 for it. In the meantime, we will continue to use it and enjoy every minute in it.
Now……the big question……..”If it’s so awesome, why are you selling it?”……………….well, simple logistics of family getting older, kids moved out, financial restrictions and storage, we have decided to part company with our mechanical love child……..and will probably regret it when the sun starts to shine again!!!
Turn the key and start your new adventure in this stylish, beautifully designed and built camper van which oozes cool and will never let you down regardless of conditions or environment.
