Are you searching for a fully equipped Land Rover Defender TD5, ready for adventure? Look no further. This Defender boasts unique and practical modifications, with less than 150,000 km on the odometer and a range of enhancements, including a lithium battery, diesel stove, and diesel heater. It's primed for your next journey.
Read on for a comprehensive description of all the technical upgrades that make this vehicle truly unique. Don’t miss the chance to own a Defender that’s completely adventure-ready!
Technical Specifications
At the heart of this Defender lies the highly reliable Td5 engine, known for its durability (with proper maintenance, these engines can easily surpass 500,000 km). With under 150,000 km, this engine is just getting started. Key modifications include an EGR blanking, ensuring only clean air circulates through the engine. A common design flaw in the cylinder head, involving plastic dowels, has been addressed: around 120,000 km, the cylinder head was removed and fitted with steel dowels and a new head gasket with bolts. This upgrade ensures no further issues. Engine oil has been changed every 10,000 km.
Recently, the original clutch was replaced with an upgraded LOF clutch and a new flywheel, with less than 5,000 km on them, making them practically new. Additionally, cruise control (Landreiziger) has been installed for added comfort on highways. The battery is an Optima RedTop, ensuring quick and reliable starts. The vehicle recently passed its MOT with no issues, valid until May 2025.
Interior
The interior has been modified for enhanced comfort. The front seats have been replaced with leather Saab seats with heating. The original rear bench seat has been replaced with a more robust Land Rover Discovery 3 seat, equipped with ISOFIX for child seats. All seats are RDW-approved, and the vehicle is registered as a 5-seater.
Sound insulation has been added under the upholstery. The standard steering wheel has been replaced with a sport steering wheel. The radio has been upgraded to a Sony display (XAV-AX8050D), supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A reversing camera has also been installed, linked to the reverse gear.
Camper Features
This vehicle is certified as a camper, meeting specific requirements such as interior space and a kitchenette. This classification means it qualifies for reduced road tax, costing only €213 per quarter instead of €852. You can also insure it as a camper, which is cheaper than standard car insurance.
It features a custom-built pop-up roof and Alu-Cab tent fabric, providing extra interior space and ventilation. The bed platform consists of two parts (100x125 cm each) that can be stacked or slid back for more space or to use the roof hatch while driving.
The kitchenette is custom-made from powder-coated aluminum, featuring a faucet with a pressure pump connected to a 10-liter jerrycan. Cooking is done on a diesel stove (Wallas 88DU) using fuel from the main tank. A diesel heater (Autoterm 2D) with a thermostat function is integrated into the kitchenette.
For the electrical system, a second battery (100 Ah Lithium from Wattstunde) has been installed, charged via a Renogy DCDC30 with display, a REDARC isolation relay, and a 110W solar panel on the roof. There is a 230V socket (with cable) and a 300W inverter for small devices.
Exterior
The Defender is fitted with Boost rims and BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires. It features a steering guard at the front, LED lighting all around with HALO LED headlights, a Frontrunner rear ladder, and Frontrunner roof racks supporting the solar panel. Two HELLA LED spotlights are mounted on the bumper, along with a 12,000 lb WARN winch (serviced and re-greased, but the relay box needs checking).
A Fiamma Caravanstore awning is easily deployable on the left side. There is a fold-out table on the left rear side, convenient for travel or camping. A gullwing window (Explore Glazing) is installed on the right rear side, allowing quick access to the fridge without entering the vehicle.
The entire underside has been treated for rust. The chassis is in excellent condition, with no problematic spots. The doors are in fair condition but not rusted. The rear bumper has a plate covering some rough welding from the previous owner. The rear crossmember is completely solid.
Overall, this is a comprehensive and practical travel vehicle. Ideally, it will go to someone who appreciates the love and care put into it. Unique Defenders like this, especially with reduced road tax and low mileage, are rare. As with any Land Rover Defender, it has character. If you can't handle a scratch or dent, this might not be for you ????! I'm open to reasonable offers.
