Hey travelers,
actually I finish my trip here in Bogota. Silverstar, that´s the name of my car is safely stored at Juan, who runs the company Overland Sally. So you have the choice to inspect and visit my car. Silverstar has been for 11 month at my side and performed more that perfect.
This car is ready to drive so you can leave the city of Bogota directly after your arrival. To do the paperwork I work together hand in hand with a chilean guy to to the titel transfer that is necessary.
It is of course possible to have the car checked in advance by a mechanic.
The 4Runner is ideal for overland travel as it has high clearance, is sturdy, easy on maintenance and very common in the region thus known to every mechanic even in the smallest towns.
I bought the most expensive roof tent (2500€) from the Brand „Wild Land“ and it is made to fits 2 persons. I drove Silverstar on the mountain pass „Aqua Negra“ in an altitude of 4800 Meters without any problems. The sometimes really bad petrol quality was never an issue for Silverstar. The range is about 700km, so you never need an extra tank. It has an automatic gear, but when its a tough terrain I use the second gear. Silverstar has more than enough power (245 hp) to climb every mountain pass.
Silverstar has automatic gear with cruise control automated 4 windows + movable rear window. Remote control with panic button, car alarm system and steering-wheel lock come as additional safety features.
Options for sleeping are in the rooftop tent(140x200cm) as well as the inside wooden structure.
The tent has more space but is more exposed to the elements, while you can sleep inside the car on a mattress in case of strong wind or rain.
The fully equipped kitchen plus cooler allows to be self-sufficient and you are well prepared for (wild) camping. A camping chair (I travelled solo) and a camping table will allow for relaxed dinners outside.
The car is fitted with a dual battery system connected via a relay. Main car battery (new from 2023) plus a new secondary battery attached to a converter which outputs 220V through a regular socket (multi-pole socket also included).
Fuel economy is typically around 10L/100km, of course depending on driving style, terrain and elevation covered.
The previous owners cared well for the car and changed oil and filters regularly. I did the maintenance for this car every 10.000km. I never had an accident with Silverstar.
Just in the interest of full disclosure: The car has a few scratches and minor paint irregularities as you would expect from a car of that age. This being said, we considered this to be an asset rather than a flaw given that these things happen naturally if you drive the car off the beaten path.
Car is ready to drive and with the help of the chilean agent its easy to make the title transfer.
I have traveled from my starting point in Santiago all the way down to Ushuaia and then up to the north. I drove 35000 km in total. Silverstar never let me down and I consider it an ideal and comfortable travel companion for South America. You will like it! I have more photos of the car. Feel free to contact Juan. Love to hear from you soon!
Please feel free to sent a message on WhatsApp directly to Juan who have secured stored Silverstar for you:
