1996 Iveco 4X4 truck, 2023 rebuilt, 3 cab seats and 3 sleep / CHILE in South America ///(Pour les français : texte en bas)////
Key elements:
- Completely rebuilt between March to June 2023 in Colombia to optimize space for a family of 3 on a permanent road trip.
- A truck chassis with the right 4X4 options to get out of very complicated travel situations.
- Totally self-sufficient in energy with 1700W of solar power and 240l. of water to stay offgrid for a long time.
- The ideal ''small'' 9-ton truck? A 28-year-old diesel truck capable of consuming all dirty diesels, even in this continent's mountainous areas at over 4,000 meters (13000ft). It's an interesting compromise for South America, with a reliable old engine and a new interior.
- At 6.27 meters long, it's superbly agile off-road, and can be turned around almost on the spot. In comparison a land rover defender (the old one) is 1 meter shorter at 5.27m.

History of this truck :
Former 8-person workshop and transport truck for high-voltage power line maintenance in France.
It was modified into a 2-person expedition vehicle in 2012. And made 1 tour of the Americas. The next owner had it transported again to South America to spend 3 months of the year traveling. I bought it at the beginning of 2023 and started using it in July 2023.
When I bought it in 2023, several hundred modifications were made in Colombia between March and July 2023. The workshop made a 4-page report of the modifications made. The entire interior of the cell was dismantled to completely rebuild this part and modify the layout, adapting it for a family of 3.
The main modifications were :
Reinforcement of the subframe on the chassis with the addition of body torsion springs
Complete waterproofing of the roof with full fiberglass covering
The interior of the cell is completely covered with fiberglass on walls and ceiling.
New walls and furniture. Kitchen with custom-made stainless steel plate
New installation of functional equipment (hob, diesel heater)
Electricity all new with Victron appliances and cables + electrical panel. It's a 110v installation.
- 2 AGM batteries for a total of 600 amp
- Fridge 110v 90liters
Closure of the space between cab and cell to create a garage for storage of the 2 spare wheels and a long aluminum ladder to the cell. This garage remains open at the top to catch the light from the 2 front windows of the cell.
Don't expect a brand-new 2024 Krug Rhino truck at €300,000. At almost 30 years old, it has non-essential broken parts that are either repaired / not repaired or upgraded. Some Seals or transmission bearings have been changed.
You're interested by this vehicle in this continent, because you know that sending a truck to South America costs €8,000 one way by boat at the moment.
All that's left is the ownership papers. Assume that you won't have an officual french registration certificate in your name, because you need an inspection test that can only be carried out in France.
Are you still interested? The main thing is to cross borders with a document in your name validated by customs? Then read the article on this website :

You can Google it to translate.
Accept the idea that you're buying this vehicle to enjoy yourself for the duration of your 6-month, one-year or even longer trip. Then it will change hands from traveller to traveller because it is adapted to the harsh conditions of this continent.
